30 May THE AVE TRAIN FINALLY ARRIVES IN OVIEDO
The last section of the route that allowed the arrival of high speed to Asturias, the well-known Pajares Variant, was finally inaugurated.
The arrival of the AVE to Asturias represents a notable improvement in communications with the plateau, since the journey to Madrid is considerably reduced, remaining at about 3 hours and 15 minutes. It is expected that the Avril trains will come into operation in 2024, which will shorten the trip even further.
In the case of neighboring León, the journey will be only 1 hour and 10 minutes. A walk, let’s go. And if we go to the furthest point with which the AVE will connect us directly, Alicante, the trip will take 6 and a half hours.
This is if we talk about the main destinations on the direct route of the Gijón-Alicante line. But it must be taken into account that the combinations from, for example, Madrid are very numerous and will put Asturias within reach of a multitude of points in Spanish geography.
